This morning, I found myself thinking about the inner conflict we are all born with.
Our Dual Identity
We are the product of two lineages:
- The DNA passed down from one human “earth-suit” to the next, and
- The experiences of our past lives
Ram Dass talked about our “spacesuits”
“When I was born I donned a spacesuit for living on this plane, it was this body, my space suit, and it had a steering mechanism which is my pre-frontal lobe and all the brain that helps with coordinating and stuff…”
I loved and embraced this analogy from the moment I first heard it
For me, it just makes sense. We have these eternal souls that must have a way of existing on this planet, thus the “earth-suit” is required to complete this journey.
The material for these “suits” are handed down from one generation to the next, manufactured in our mother’s womb.
Our DNA will determine our genetic traits, such as eye/skin color, the likelihood of certain illnesses and such.
Additional studies have shown that certain behaviors are also passed along via DNA.
The more often used, the deeper the imprint.
The experiences of our ancestors get handed down, again and again, which probably explains why some folks, when presented with danger, instinctively respond with either:
- Flight
- Fight, or
- Deer in headlights.
Then we have our souls, eternal and endless.
I know that most folks don’t believe in reincarnation or past lives, and that’s cool.
But just for a moment, please, just take that leap…
Some believe the number of past lives are dozens… others believe it could be 1000’s…
Let’s go with a lower number.
If you have been here a dozen times, chances are you have been both a man and a woman.
Your skin color has been anywhere from blinding white to sumptuous black, and every shade between.
You have probably been the hero…
and most likely the villain as well.
And why all these variation?
So you can learn all of the lessons life and the universe can provide.
Now, take all of that soulful experience, and deposit into an “earth-suit” with its own history.
And suddenly it makes sense how we are all so very conflicted.
Even if we don’t want to admit it.
Why many don’t feel comfortable in their “skin.”
Like I said… just a thought…
But damn… it does make a lot of sense… at least to me…
It also brings me a sense of calm and peace.
Folks, we need to accept ourselves and each other just as we are.
Because there is a reason for all of it.
Doesn’t that give you an even greater respect and love for God and the Universe?
